I have had swelling and inflammation on the outside of my little toe for a couple of months....pain is tolerable but there is swelling and redness to the point that it has been causing problems with shoes. I was prescribed by a podiatrist today 75 mg Difclofenac sodium ec tablets to be taken two times a day....reading on line scares me about this drug....should I be concerned....I am fairly healthy....had breast cancer and chemo June 2014....just wondering.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I have gone through your query. It may be due to blunt trauma.

For further assessment you may require X Ray of little toe after orthopedician consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Apply diclofenac gel or ointment locally.

Heating pads also helps.

Restrict your movements.

In case of severe pain use support while walking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
