What Causes Persistent Swelling And Numbness Around The Ankle Post A Dog Bite?

I was bitten by a dog, and the area (around my ankle) is swollen. The swollen area is numb. The Dr. gave me a tetanus shot and put me on penicillin. I am concerned about the continued swelling and numbness since this happened 4 days ago. E-mail address is YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling and numbness at the area of a dog bite are normal.

I recommend to online taking the antibiotics to prevent an infection.

I also suggest applying a sterile bandage to the wound.

Apply antibiotic ointment to the injury every day to prevent infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
