What Causes Persistent Swelling And Tenderness In The Toe After An Injury?
2 weeks ago I walked into a chair injuring my middle toe on my right foot. It bruised and was swollen for several days. It was never deformed. Now! Two weeks later it remains slightly swollen and tender. Is it possible that I have a hairline fracture? And knowing that not much is done with a closed crack, can you offer any suggestions to lessen the discomfort and promote healing?
At 2 weeks period, with persistent pain, swelling in the toe indicates underlying muscle or ligament sprain or strain, insult to bone as hairline crack or others. Primary relief with: - Ice application 3 times a day 5 minutes each - Keeping the leg elevated over 3 pillows when resting - Avoid excess weight bearing or tight shoes - Prescription of antibiotics as penicillin, anti inflammatory medicines as serratiopeptidase with diclofenac or ibuprofen if no history of drug sensitivity - Control of blood sugar for prevention of secondary bacterial infection in possible hematoma or cellulitis stage
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
