What Causes Persistent Swelling In Eyelid After Stitches On Injury?
My 6yr old son injured his eye lid on a tree branch, the ER put in 5 stiches. His eye is still swollen shut and today its bloody and crusty by the year duct. I m worried he may have scratched it. It s going on 2 days. How long can it be swollen shut?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. Ali's Response
Any trauma blunt or sharp on the region of forehead or around eyes which causes blood discharge, results in pooling of blood in eyelids and below the eyes. This condition resolves in few days depending on the amount of blood. If there is blood over the white area of eye ball i.e. sclera it can be due to hemorrhagic conjunctivitis. This condition also resolves itself unless an ulcer is also there.
