What Causes Persistent Swelling In The Ankles And Feet?
Last month and, now for the second month my angles and feet are swelling up to almost to my knees. It starts around six days before my mensuration. It has happened in the past and my Dr at the time put me on lasix 20mg once a day or take two a day if swelling persist. I have taken the lasix and its helping me a little. I know that I am to rest and keep my feet up but I can t rest a lot. Can you please tell me what else I can do? I lost my insurance and can t afford to go to the doctor now but, they really hurt. Thank you and God bless you
Well, there are several possible causes. This may be a beginning of leg cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into a diabetic foot or even diabetic gangrene.
So any swelling, redness or pain in legs in someone who has diabetes should be evaluated by medical professionals since antibiotics may have to be started as soon as possible to prevent the spreading of infection.
He should do at least basic blood tests and blood sugar to see if there is a significant infection or not. Other causes include deep vein thrombosis or lymphoedema and these should be checked with an ultrasound exam.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
