What Causes Persistent Swelling In Tongue And Thinning Of Eyebrows?

Hi, so I may be self diagnosing but I think I may have an issue with my Thyroid. My tongue has been swollen around the edges for about a month, and now my eyebrows are thinning out. I went to the doctors and she had me checked for B vitamin and Folic acid. She called me today and said I was normal in those areas. What tests should I be taking in order to find out what s going on? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would suggest you to take complete thyroid profile which includes TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 levels to rule out Hypothyroidism.Any other cause of hormonal imbalance or heavy bleeding should be ruled out. Oral cavity should also be examined to identify any tongue abnormalities.Autoimmune diseases can also cause hair loss and thinning of eyebrows which should also be ruled out.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
