Hello, my 6 year old son has a fever of 103.1 He has been sick since Monday morning. The only symptoms hes shown or told me about are a headache on Monday, and just a sore throat and chills. I have been giving him Ibprofen since yesterday, and i had given him ibprofen an hour before i took his temperature. I am wondering at what temp should i take my son to the hospital.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Fever and headache are common symptoms and usually seen in flu. However in a child, these symptoms can occur in many conditions and some of them can progress quickly.

A fever and headache should be watched for 24 hours with medicines in a child and if there is no improvement and new symptoms are seen then please consult your doctor immediately. There are many bacterial and viral infections which can cause headache and fever of neurological origin Ignoring early signs can cause significant worsening and is a risk to health. Please do not worry.
