What Causes Persistent Throat Pain In A Patient With Pharyngitis?
The back right side of my tongue is sore and very painful to touch. It bleeds every time I I brush. I went to the ER on June 5th 2015 and the MD on call Diagnosed me with pharyngitis. I received Keflex x2 for 7days. I always received 3 shots for inflammation of my pharynx. How ever I ve complied and completed the treat but my tongue remains sore and painful.
Since you have Pharyngitis you are suggested to gargle your throat 3-4 times a day with salt water. Take food that is semi solid like porridge, oats, custard, etc. Avoid taking raw food and veggies. Take warm soups and beverages.
Pain and soreness is indicative of strep throat and bacterial infection. You need a course of oral antibiotics (Doxycycline or Augmentin) to relieve soreness and inflammation. Avoid addictions if any. Since you have pain throat give voice rest. You can take acetaminophen, one SOS to relieve pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
