Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Vaginal Bleeding While On Alysena Birth Control Pills?
I have been taking Alysena 21 day birth control and have been on my period for almost an entire month. I received 3 boxes upon getting the prescription. One box was finished without an issue, and I got my period. The second box I was able to get through half of then I got my period for 3 weeks. I then started the new box after the period ended, and I got my period again after 5 days. It is a very heavy period with lots of crampying and bloating. Should I be seeking medical attention?
As per my clinical experience, the oral contraceptive or birth control pills are concerned with many of the side effects and common among them is heavy menses. In my suggestion, kindly stop the intake of ALysena birth control pills, opt for an alternative as condom or else till one month period.
Usually reversal to normal previous menstrual pattern takes place within a period of one menstrual cycle. If beyond that, there is persistence of menorrhagia, kindly consult your OBGYN.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
