Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I have had vaginal discharge for several weeks now. Every once in a while there would be blood. There was an increase in that for a week and then went away. Im not on my period but for the past few days there has been blood again, Im really worried.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Vaginal discharge is called leukorrhea. Leukorrhea is caused by increase in congestion in pelvic organs, pelvic inflammatory diseases, infection etc. A vaginal swab for micro-biological examination is required to identify the causative organism. If an infectious agent is identified, a culture and drug sensitivity will be required to identify the causative organism. Drug sensitivity will select the most appropriate drug effective against the micro-organism. Blood can accompany infection so there is nothing to worry about it. Practice safe sex till the infection clears up.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja puri
