Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Vaginal Itching And Painful Urination Despite Taking Monistat?
I purchased and am using the Monistat 3 because I feel that I have a yeast infection due to the severe itching and burning when urinating. This has been happening gir 2 months now. I thought it would go away but it didn t. I tried the Monistat last night but the buning was severe. It lasted 15 min. Now I feel some abdominal pain. Is this normal? Should I stop using th Monistat 3?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Itching and burning sensation while urinating is suggestive of urinary tract infection. Monistat is an anti-fungal ointment which acts only superficially. Thus, I suggest you to get an urine examination. Presence of pus cells, a positive nitrite test and presence of bacteria are suggestive of urinary tract infection. A culture of the urine sample is required thereafter. The organism causing urinary tract infection can be identified on culture. The culture needs to be followed by drug sensitivity test. This investigations will identify the most appropriate antibiotic effective against the causative bacteria.
