What Causes Persistent Vomiting And Burning Sensation In The Chest During Pregnancy?
I am 21 weeks pregnant. I have been vomiting for the past 12 hours. Originally it was just nausea, but for the past 9 hrs my chest has been burning very badly and my vomit is a dark brown almost black watery substance. This has never happened before. I am concerned. I try drinking water after vomiting and to calm down the burning sensation but it does not go away for long. Please help it is unbearable anymore. I jave not kepy any food down for almost 24 hrs.
If you are vomiting a dark brown/black substance, you are having bleeding from the upper digestive tract - either your stomach or esophagus. The acid in the stomach changes the blood to a dark coffee ground type of appearance. This would explain the chest burning (from acid coming up into the esophagus) as well. I advise that you go in to the ER now. They can evaluate the problem and try to stop it with medication and also they can provide rehydration. So - go in now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
