What Causes Persisting Strong Chemical Smell In The Nose?
For the past year I have had a strong chemical smell through my nose. My husband says he cannot smell anything. It s almost a daily occurrence. In the past I have had to use Flonaise for allergy problem but not long term.....just a day or two. Could this have damaged my sinuses?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persisting strong chemical smell in the nose which seems to be due to phantosmia which is disturbance in olfactory nerve sensations and its distributions.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use nasal saline spray with nasal wash 3 puff each nostril thrice daily to keep nose clean. It does not seems to be any adverse effect of nasal spray for sinuses. You should consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order certain test to find out the exact cause and treat it accordingly. Keep your head elevated while sleeping and maintain proper oral hygiene. Avoid pricking nose with any sharp object.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
