What Causes Pigmentation On Either Side Of Lips?

My 2 yr old son had cold sores which was treated by an antibiotic cream..but when the sores left, the skin on either side of his lips lost its pigment and now has a lighter colour than the rest of his skin..its 4 months since and has not returned to normal colour
