I they said I have a pilondial cyst. but I m out of work right now due to having surgery from a work injury is the cyst a result of the injury because I m sitting all the time? The reason I ask is I can t afford the medicine the we doctor prescribed me
Hello and welcome to HCM, A pilonidal cyst is caused by an ingrown hair shaft. The ingrown hair shaft creates a sinus which gets infected, form a cyst or may bleed. All these secondary changes can cause pain. It is the ingrowing hair which is the cause of pilonidal sinus, however, trauma can be the underlying cause. Whatever may be the cause, treatment of pilonidal sinus or cyst is surgical excision. Thus, I suggest you to consult your surgeon for clinical assessment and management of the condition.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
