Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve got a pilonidal cyst on the upper part of my asscrack that comes and goes about once a month and has done so for several years now. Usually a day or two after sweating a lot and then sitting around before eventually showering. It usually ends up popping and diminishing but it s back again. It s a bit painful and swells up and causes me to be uncomfortable.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that formation of Pilonidal cyst or Pilonidal Abscess at the upper part of buttcrack can occur due to causes like:
-Traumatic injury to tailbone area.
-Ingrown hairs.
-Infection in the area etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Proctologist or a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a clinical examination is generally sufficient and if required x ray can also be advised.. In case of Pilonidal abscess you can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and cool compresses over the area.. You can also be advised Incision and Drainage in case of abscess and Marsupialization or Enucleation in case of Cyst..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
