Tretinoin is used for treatment of acne. Its side effects are initial exacerbation of symptoms, skin irritation, edema, blistering, crusting of the skin, scaling,
photosensitivity, and temporary hypo/
hyperpigmentation. But it is not seen in all patients. You experienced initial exacerbation of acne. It is not suitable for you.
Adapalene causes mild skin irritation, dryness, stinging and burning, pruritus, rash, eczema, acne flare,
dermatitis, skin discoloration, and sunburn. It also causes flare up of acne. It belongs to the same family of drug as tretinoin. So it might not be suitable for you.
1. Continue adapalene as suggested by your doctor. If you do not get relief or experience side effect then you can use Clindoxyl gel (
clindamycin + benzyl peroxide) for local application at bed time for a month
2. Doxycycline daily per oral for 30 days. If you are pregnant then do not use doxycycline. This is a prescription based medicine.
3. Use Acne aid soap three time daily for cleaning your face
4. Do not squeeze pimples as it will cause scarring
5. Keep pimples untouched
6. Try to avoid use of unbranded cosmetics unnecessarily
7. Avoid mental stress as it aggravates acne
