What Causes Pleural Effusion, Shortness Of Breath And Ribcage Pain?
Just diagnosed with pleural effusion on 1/22/18. Shortness of breath and rib cage pain. Emergency clinic took x-ray. Showed right lung 3/4 filled with fluid. Emergency hospital took me immediately to empty out 1.5 liters. CAT scan, more xrays, blood work, etc. In hospital 2 3/4 days. Waiting for PET scan that was scheduled for 1/31/18 but denied by insurance company. United Health Care AARP. Pulmonary physician discussing issue with insurance company. What happens if PET scan is not approved? I m female 77 yrs old.
As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:
1) Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor and check if you have done following tests or not [CBC with differential, RF test, Chest X-Ray, ECG, Ultrasound and fluid culture].
2) Discuss with your treating Doctor about [Pleural biopsy] and it will confirm the exact pathological cause of your problem and it will be done under ultrasound guidance and it is a minor procedure.
3) Try to focus on primary under laying pathological cause only for treatment.
For lifestyle modification, take OTC painkiller like [Ibuprofen] for pain and take rest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
