What Causes Pleural Effusions And Inflammation During Periods?
I am a 34 year old female with 3 children. I have had a very complicated medical history for the last 3 years. I have had episodes every 5 months where I get pleural effusions and inflammation. These episodes seem to exist when I have my period but does not happen every month. It has been suggested I might have endometriosis. I have been an inpatient in the hospital many times and no one has explaination to why this is happening therefore have been unable to come up with a treatment plan. My last episode happened and I was admitted to Yale new haven hospital on May 14 and was discharged today the 18th. Are there any doctors familiar with this that I can seek treatment from? It has been very frustrating. Please help!
There is no connection between pleural effusions and period cycle. Anyway, I agree with your doctor on the fact that endometriosis and a cyst in the lungs could be the cause underlying this issue. Anyway, I would recommend needle biopsy of the pleural effusion, in order to have more information on its possible origin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
