What Causes Plugged Ears And Tinnitus While Suffering From Cold?

I have had a pretty bad head cold for the last few days and am now experiencing plugged ears, but no pain in my ears, just a VERY loud motor running sound constantly in my head . I have also been having quite a bit of sinus pressure and I am noticing my hearing is being affected also. Should I see a doctor or just wait to see if this subsides by itself? I am a 64 year old female in otherwise good health.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is common symptom of viral fever otherwise called as cold.

As a first line management, you can take antihistamines like cetirizine for symptomatic relief.

You can also do steam inhalation for to open blocked sinuses.

Nothing much to worry and you will be fine in a couple of days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
