Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My 13 year old son had difficulties breathing on Sep 10th and after tests at the ER it was suspected that he has pneumomediastinum. We were sent home to manage the symptoms with Tylenol and Advil. He returned on Sep 15th with neck pain, but his left lung was improving. They said it was probably an inflammation in the lining of his lung. Since then he s had vomiting and diarrhea. Any suggestions? Our family doctor has referred him to a lung specialist, but that could take up to a month. He s very tired and misses school to sleep all day.
dear madam Pneumomediastinum is an uncommon entity in pediatric practice. It is defined as free air or gas contained within the mediastinum, which almost invariably originates from the alveolar space or the conducting airways. The etiology of pneumomediastinum is multifactorial.
the underlying cause needs to be treated, pray may we know if your son had any pre existing lung disease like asthma etc treating the cause will prevent further occurrence
