What Causes Poor Memory While On Donepezil?

My father in law s dr started him on 5mg of Donepezil in Aug 2016, once daily. symptoms of forgetfulness did not slow down, but seemed to speed up. So in Dec, his dr added 5 mg of Memantine 2x daily. The patient still seems to be more and more forgetful. He is living with us now, as he cannot complete ADL s at all without constant coaching. I am just inclined to take him off of these two medicines. is it harmful to the patient in any way to just stop those meds? YYYY@YYYY . PLEASE, I only want a response from you. He is suffering from Dementia which is a progressive disease and drugs which he is receiving are treatment for Dementia they do not agrevate forgetfulness but it is underlying disease which is progressing, more than drugs he will need to be participative in brain activating work like reading using computer and Internet to keep his brain active and continue medication. And healthy diet including vegetables and fresh fruits.
