Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 44 year old female. I began to experience mild vision loss for distances last year. The doctor stated that this change in vision was normal and due to aging. I am due for another visit but I can tell that my vision is getting worse. I am also experiencing numbness in my feet sometimes. Last week I had pain and numbness in one of my feet for about an hour or two in the morning. It was difficult to walk. The strong pain just came back this evening. The last visit I had to a medical Dr. he stated that my blood pressure was low. Within normal range but according to him, unless I was running marathons currently, it should not be that low. I have always been told that I my blood pressure is very good. I have always been an athlete, so I am not sure if this is any different from my normal blood pressure. Do any of these symptoms sound like something to be concerned about?
The fact that your vision is getting worse, at age 44 years, with numbness of the feet with difficulty to walk can suggest that you are having T2 Diabetes. This can cause retinopathy with vision loss, and lower limb peripheral neuropathy with feet and legs discomfort. Please do get your blood sugar fasting, postprandial and HbA1C. If it shows Diabetes, you must consult a Physician or an Endocrinologist for Diabetic control. Doctor will refer you to the eye surgeon for retinopathic examination and management of the vision problem. The lower limb neuropathy will be managed by a Podiatric surgeon. You must keep the skin of your feet soft by a skin softner like Vaseline. Always wear soft, pressure distributing insoled foot wear. Materials like Silicon,. EVA, Poron, Platazote are good. Doctor would prescribe medication to relieve you off the neuropathic discomfort depending on the degree of neuropathy and any other conditions you may be having.
