What Causes Popping Sensation And Pain In The Knee?

Hello, I ve had osteoarthritis for years now, and I ve also been told I have a torn meniscus (sp) in my left knee. Recently, I heard something kind of pop in the left knee, and I m in bad pain, especially if I have to bend and twist the knee, like getting into a car. There is a very sore spot on the outside middle of the knee area, but it doesn t seem to be the joint itself. Do you know what it could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The popping noise may be due to meniscus, this is can cause this symptom to occur in some persons. Pain in the knee, locking and swelling can also happen as well. You may need to be reviewed by your doctor to see if there have been any changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
