What Causes Popping Sensation Behind Ears Towards The Base Of Skull?
My wife and now my daughter occasionally get a popping sensation behind their ears towards the base of their skulls. They tell me that they can feel the pressure build and then after some time, there s a popping sensation that is immediately followed by a hot sensation and a feeling that blood is flowing up/down (difference between the two). This is followed by a headache and then all subsides. Any ideas what this might be? I have never experienced anything like this. My wife suffers from frequent migraines.

Your wife and your daughter are suffering from popping sensations behind the ears towards the base of the skull. Ears may pop if elevations are changed, like while flying in a plane or diving in the ocean. Change of pressure in the ears may cause symptoms of pain in the ears, muffled sounds, dizziness, problem in hearing, etc.
Popping may also occur if a person is suffering from sinus problems. Get them clinically examined by an ENT. Get required tests and investigations, X-ray PNS done to detect any deviation in the nasal septum. They will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, nasal sprays and decongestant medications help relieve pressure on your ears. They should avoid addictions if any.
