What Causes Popping Sensation In Shoulder Followed By Numbness?

Hello, I believe I either tore a tendon or something in my shoulder about 5-6 years ago. I am 23 now. I was playing dodgeball and threw a ball and felt a sudden pop in my shoulder and it went numb and starting tingling. It hurt for a few weeks after that but slowly the pain went away. I never went to doctor or anything. I sleep on my arms at night and every morning I wake up with pain in both shoulders. I can not throw a baseball more than 15 ft or it hurts and feels like my should pops in and out of place. Also if I left my hand above my head or behind me and over extend it, the same thing happens. What do you think is wrong and what should I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have popping sensation in shoulder followed by numbness . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like cervical spondylosis , cervical radiculopathy , nerve compression , or symptoms or angina . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI . Doctor may prescribe nerve supplement muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and physical therapy along with particular stretching exercises . Doctor may also refer you to cardiologist in case of cardiac problem or neurologist for nerve problem . For now eat healthy , and apply warm compresses to neck , shoulder and arm .
