Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am experiencing a popping, cracking sound, which I thought was an ear wax problem, in my ears. It has been diagnosed as tmj by an urgent care physician. They advised soft foods and over the counter Sudafed, as part of the problem could be a blocked eustachian tube. Is Sudafed the best drug for the tmj and eustachian problem?
Hi Many drugs have been used to treat TMD pain, such as analgesics (pain killers), benzodiazepines (e.g. clonazepam, prazepam, diazepam), anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin), muscle relaxants.
For blocked Eustachian tube- Perform the Valsalva maneuver. This maneuver, which attempts to force air through the blocked passage and reestablish air flow, should always be performed gently. Nasal decongestants should be use to relief congestion. Ear drops won't be able to unclog your congestion because the ear is blocked up. Because the ears and nose are connected through tubes, a nasal spray is an effective way to treat Eustachian tube blockage. Angle the nasal spray bottle through the nostril toward the back of the throat, almost perpendicular to the face. Sniff as you spray the decongestant.
Sudafed is a antihistaminic and oral decongestant combination and can be taken to relief congestion .
