What Causes Popping Sensation, Weakness And Swelling In The Knee?

My right knee is giving me quite a bit of discomfort. I am 62 yr old female that is overweight and recently diagnosed with arthritis. But the popping and weakness tells me more is going on. Now I have some swelling in back of the knee as well. Should I see an orthopedic dr?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Swelling in the knee, accompanied with pain and popping sensation can be related to knee arthritis, that causes inflammation and swelling of the knee structures.

A physical examination by an orthopedist, X-ray of the knee, and other laboratory studies might be necessary to determine the type of the arthritis. Meanwhile, for pain relief and to reduce inflammation you can take Ibuprofen twice daily, try not to overuse the knee, apply ice packs.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
