Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pregnancy Symptoms While HPT Is Negative?
Hello, I stopped taking my birth control pills (norabee) on March 2. I have not gotten a period but am experiencing pregnancy symptoms, sleepiness, abdominal cramping, gas, mood swings, frequent urination, clear discharge. I took a home pregnancy test this past Tuesday and it came out negative. Could I be pregnant? This will be my 4th child if I am pregnant.
The symptoms of sleepiness, abdominal cramps, gas, mood swings, frequent urination and clear discharge are very vague symptoms and not specific for pregnancy. In fact, if you have got a negative HPT taken at least a week after the sexual contact, then your chances of being pregnant are very very remote, as HPT is generally a very specific and sensitive test.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
