What Causes Premature Atrial Contractions While Lying Down?

I have PAC S. I also have SVT. I take 50 mg of metoprolol a day. I do not have the PAC all the time. It has not happened for several months. The last three days they start in late afternoon and stop when laying Dow to ga o to bed at night. The cardiologist gave me a prescription for flecainide acetate 50. I have never taken them. I am concerned about the side effects. My doctor tells me the PAC e benign but they do make me feel very strange when the occur several times per minute. What do you suggest? thank you. Nancy

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely start flecainide.
You are also having SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia).
So appearance of new arrhythmia (rhythm disturbances in heart) in the form PAC (premature atrial contraction) can be pathological.
It can cause hypotension and sudden black out episodes.
So better to take both, metoprolol and flecainide.
Another option is Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA). So discuss about this option with your doctor.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
