Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took my Mum to the Dr as i believed she had Alzheimer s. The Dr sent her for a CT scan, which showed excess fluid on the brain. We had an MRi which showed the excess fluid was from her having less brain tissue than normal. We now have to see a specialist. Is this Cerebral Atrophy?
First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, your mother is having hydrocephalus and it clinically presents as no urine control, impaired memory and difficulty walking.
This is a common condition in elderly but this is different from cerbral atrophy. As in cerbral atrophy its just the reduction in brain size and impairment of memory is seen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
