What Causes Pressure And Pain In Chest While Sitting?

My 57 yo husband has been having chest pressure, slight pain, and nausea on/off the past two weeks. No food involved. He experiences these symptoms while sitting at his desk job. I think he needs to go be checked out and get to the root of the problem, but he is reluctant. I know it s a guy thing to go into denial, but I love him and am very concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

The cause could be related to the gastric tract but a cardiac cause will have to be ruled out either way. Acid reflux is one of the most common causes for such a presentation and I would recommend he stop smoking, drinking alcohol, reduce streas levels, avoid strenuous exercise, drink plenty of fluids, avoid carbonated drinks and sodas, avoid spicy fried oily and fried food. Visit a doctor, in the meantime go about taking antacids to see if it helps, 15 minutes before a meal.

Best wishes.
