What Causes Pressure And Swelling In The Headache And Dizziness?

My friend has had a dull pressure headache all day, suddenly her forehead began to swell and her BP has increased from 120/80 to 156/90. She complains of increased pressure, dizziness and decreased vision. Is it ok for her to wait 90 min to go to the ER or should I call for an ambulance?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I have gone through the medical history of your friend carefully and understood your concern.

I see that the symptoms of your friend have suddenly appeared. A pressure headache, raised blood pressure, dizziness and affected vision all these tell me about an intracranial pressure raised.

The swelling of the forehead maybe is due to a possible trauma in the head that she does not remember recently (for example hurting the in the door of the car while you go out of the car, any crash while moving at home etc.).

A raised intracranial pressure is an indicator of brain edema and is considered urgency. Please call an ambulance and seek medical help as soon as possible. Any delay can cause permanent deficiency and the fact that the forehead has some of the most important sites of the brain it is better to win as much time as you can.

A head MRI must be done at the ER and mannitol perfusion will be administered.

Hope this is helpful. Wish fast recovery.
