What Causes Pressure During Intercourse Despite Hymen Excision?

Hi, I m 19 years old. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks since I had an excision of my hymen performed; as sexual intercourse and inserting a tampon have always been impossible for me, due to my thick hymen. Inserting a swab was even painful for me. I built up courage to look down below a week ago to see that my thick hymen was still there along with a few sutures, but I was expecting to see a hole in my hymen, or at least a very small one.. which I don t see. Photos were taken after my procedure was done showing a hole in my hymen, that appears to be around a cm in width while the surgeon stretches my labia to the side, and a thin tube being inserted. I was unable to see an obvious hole when I tried stretching my labia to the side. All i see is a split going downwards in the centre of my hymen. I have a small space under my hymen. I was wondering whether I should be seeing a hole in my hymen, whether it s meant to look the same after surgery, and most of all, when I can try attempting intercourse?.. as it s causing a lot of pressure on my relationship and draining me emotionally every single day. I read that recovery takes two weeks, I no longer have pain down there and feel that my recovery has gone well.. I am able to open my vagina to assess, although it all looks the same as before. :( Thanks very much

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

You may not be able to see the opening in hymen yourself. You may discuss it with your surgeon to confirm the opening. It may take few more days for the surgical site to heal.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
