What Causes Pressure In The Ears Upon Laying On One Side Of The Body?

Whenever I ve been laying on the side and resting either my left or right side of the head on my pillow I experience a weird feeling in my ear after a while (some form of pressure building up). When I then lift my head off the pillow my ear plops and it keeps me awake. Thanks in advance

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pressure on the ears upon laying on it occurs commonly when you have sinus infections, allergies or common cold/influenza. The Eustachian tube may get blocked for a while & you may feel discomfort or pressure building. To get relieve run a humidifier in your room, breathing exercises are helpful, lie horizontally for relieve. You can take antihistamine or decongestants.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
