Hello,
Thank you for writing at HCM.
The symptoms you are prescribing are very common with
otitis media with effusion which is fluid collection behind the ear drum especially during a viral infection.
Allergy might also cause similar problems. All is related to the eustachian tube that connects the throat mucosa with the ear room behind the eardrum- I totally agree with your doctor. Due to the pressure there we might also feel dizzy- one of the functions the ear has is balance and this might be effected.
This is totally self limiting and you should feel improvement within a few days. You can take some
cold medications that contain
pseudoephedrine and an antihistamine that might help with the edema of the tube and sometimes nasal
steroid spray might be very helpful also. the cold medications you can take as over the counter but the nasal steroid spray you will need prescription for it.
1. Make sure you drink plenty and take some mints to keep your throat fresh and "open".
2. Make sure you rest as much as you can, do not move a lot or do quick position changes or stand up quick
3. sit immediately when you feel dizzy so you do not fall and cause
head trauma or other trauma
4. if no improvement in a few days or earlier if any worsening you will need to see a doctor.
Hope this is helpful to you
Best regards,
