Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 95 year old mom just got over type A flu and is now complaining of pressure in her upper back, which eventually goes away - she has had two different spells. We are not sure if it is residual from the flu or maybe her heart. She had a heart attack some time in her past as evidenced by an EKG. She has nitro glycerin pills to put under her tongue, but is afraid to take them. She only weighs about 112 pounds, and I wonder if she had the smallest pills available. She is worried about side effects - stroke, etc.
Pressure or discomfort in the back can be due to some developing coronary artery disease. You are recommended to get her physically examined, get lipid function tests (LFT), CBC, Urinalysis, ECG, Echocardiography, stress tests done. CT or MRI if needed. Get her evaluated & treated at the earliest.
In the meantime help her stay away from stress, give her homemade food, berries, fruits & veggies. Avoid oily, spicy, junk food. Let her have adequate sleep.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
