What Causes Pressure Under The Left Breast Upon Climbing Up The Hill?

I have had a triple Coronary bypass 15 mo. ago, now when I walk up hills or even stairs fast I feel pressure just under the skin of my left breast. I have checked my blood pressure when this happens and it has risen. Usually its 120/80 or less when I feel the pressure its higher by 10 to 20 points. depending on how many stairs I climb or the steepness of the hill. When I rest or stop climbing the stars or hill the chest pressure decreases. Do you know what causes this and is there anything I can do to eliminate or reduce it. Some times it feels like my chest is going to burst like a balloon. Thank you for your help Paul L.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Let me explain you the cause of the pressure sensation you are experiencing in your chest. Since you have undergone a triple coronary bypass, when you do a strenuous workout like climbing or walking uphill, your heart will have to start pumping extra blood for the muscles for that work. After bypass, the normal circulation route is closed the blood will flow through the bypass route as a result of that you may experience pain, heaviness or slight breathlessness on exertion. However, keep the following things in mind always. If you experience any of the following symptoms:
1) severe palpitation,
2) severe breathlessness/a cough,
3) and dizziness, then kindly refrain from a strenuous workout, and consult your cardiologist you may need a repeat Echocardiography.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
