What Causes Profuse Vaginal Bleeding After Childbirth?
Hi, i was placed in the hospital maybe six weeks after giving birth due to me bleeding profusely and passing blood clots bigger than grapefruit. And i have a 10cm fibroid outside of my uterus. Well i was given the depo shot and i had a uterine artery embolism. That was almost 4months ago and I m still bleeding. What should i do about this problem?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Profuse bleeding after vaginal delivery can be due to retained products of conception or retained placenta. The fibroid is unlikely to be the cause of vaginal bleeding since the fibroid has already been managed with arterial embolization. You need to consult your obstetrician for clinical examination and uterine exploration so as to find the cause of bleeding. A ruptured blood vessel can also lead to profuse bleeding. An ultrasound abdomen is also required to assess the state of uterus. Appropriate management can be planned once cause is identified. Retained placenta is removed manually under anaesthesia. If there is bleeding vessel, it can repaired surgically by cautery and if fibroid is the cause, it can be managed surgically or by embolization.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
