What Causes Prolactin Levels To Increase After Having Implanon?
I have been on implanon for about two years now. I recently had a blood test done because I had a gut feeling that I would have a problem with carrying a child to term after my miscarriage back in 2008. One of the things I found out from the blood work was that my prolactin levels were increased. Since I have never had issues with my prolactin levels, is it possible that implanon has caused my prolactin levels to increase to the point where I do lactate when my breast in squeezed?
Hello, I want to tell you that increased blood prolactin levels are increased in very few people who are using implanon. So before jumping to the conclusion that increased prolactin levels is only because of implanon, let's think about other causes too... like thyroid problems, stress, psychiatric treatment, some antacids As you are getting discharge from the breast, it is because of increased prolactin levels. Prolactin levels are confirmed always by two reports done four weeks apart. Increased prolactin levels can interfer in getting pregnant and some complications in pregnancy. So it should be addressed . hope this helps. Regards, DR TEJASHREE BHOR Gynaecologist, Pune
