What Causes Prolonged Bleeding Post Intake Of Contraceptive Pill?

Hello, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. I did take the emergency contraception pill, Aftera, approximately 14 hours after my boyfriend and I were together. About 1 week later (June 1st) I began spotting. Then my spotting turned a little heavier for a couple of days. Around the 8th, I thought the bleeding would stop because it had lessened. However, 2 days later, I started bleeding much heavier and it has gotten heavier ever day. I feel like I m on my full period. I was not due to get my period until the 16th of this month. I have been bleeding every day this month. I don t know what to do. I have bad cramps and bleeding pretty heavily now. Should I go see my doctor?

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the prolonged bleeding post intake of contraceptive pill is the action of the hormone pill over the pituitary hypothalamus uterine path to induce menses. Usually, its effect lasts for a period of 4-5 days and later abolish. If the bleeding is beyond that period, you have to consult your OBGYN immediately as that may lead to development of anemia.
