What Causes Prolonged Bleeding While On Birth Control Pills To Regulate Menstruation?
Hi! I am 39 yrs old I have history of endometriosis and ovarian cyst.i underwent curettage last feb.5,2015. I took birth control pills for 2 months to regulate my menstrual cycle. Last July 2015 I only had spotting during my menstrual period which lasted 3 days. August 21, 2015 I had my period, the bleeding was heavy accompanied with blood clots until now I m still bleeding, it s been 2 weeks. What will I do to stop the bleeding. What are the causes of this prolonged bleeding? Please help me. Thanks
There are many medical conditions that may cause abnormal uterine bleeding. With negative pregnancy tests, causes linked to pregnancy can be eliminated.Other possible causes of your symptoms at your age could be:
-Premenopause
-Hormonal imbalances
-Medical conditions such as uterine masses(fibroids, cancer)
-Infectious causes though rare given your description of symptoms.
I will advise you see a Gynecologist for examination and work-ups.A pelvic ultrasound will be a very important test to evaluate your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein
