My handicap son s blood sugar is staying at high levels. He is 34 years old. He has started losing his hair and is really bothered by that, his father has cancer and is dying and is really having issues with that. His blood sugar is staying high and I am really concerned with that. I call his doctor and ask for a call and they call back after hours ring the phone and I didn t get the call until the third ring and then call them right back and they are out of the office. Really great. What can I do? I need a doctor that can help me this my son with the diabetic issue and he is also handicap. Can you help?

Hi,

See definitely high blood sugar level needs to be evaluated and treated. Maybe he is developing diabetes or he is still a prediabetic, this can be decided once we regularly check the sugar levels. Sometimes it can be drug-induced if he is already on some medicines.

So I feel you start charting the sugar levels. Make a record of his fasting and postprandial sugar levels( 2 hours after food ). If possible get his glycosylated hemoglobin checked ( average three months sugar levels).

For him to be labeled as diabetic his fasting sugar should be more than 125. Take care of his diet- avoid fatty foods and sugar-containing food. Once the reports are ready, you can get back to me.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Milinda Gupta
