What Causes Prolonged Headaches And Nausea?

I am a 14 year old female. I weight 100 lbs and am 5 3. I ve gotten sick every year since I was a baby and Im still not sure of the cause. Almost everyday that I have school I feel nauseous and get migranes. Sometimes i cant even eat. I remember when I was in elementary school i would get ear infections and sometimes double ear infections and have to go to the hospital a lot. Now I m in high school and about the same time every day I start to get a headache and feel nauseous and feel really tired. The strange thing is I always feel perfectly fine the next morning unless I smell food or try to eat breakfast. Still I ll feel sick towards the afternoon and then feel sick for the rest of the day.

Hi,

Headaches are so common and sometimes so difficult to treat. Several things do come to mind. I am not sure if you have any other symptoms beyond the nausea and fatigue, but in atypical migraine headaches often patients become very light sensitive, even bright lights in the classroom induce pain. Atypical migraines can also insomnia and even changes in your vision (wavy lines in your vision). This is one possibility, another is stress-induced headaches which are also very common for students.

I am not sure if the headaches also are present when you are not in school but that would be something to look into as well. Things to try for the headaches (and you may have already used some of these) are medications like Ibuprofen and Naprosyn, these work vary well. Please make sure you get no less than 7 hours of sleep at night and try not to eat too many carbohydrates (a lot of sugar worsens headaches). Medications like Imitrex are also very effective if nothing else works. These are very successful. I am sorry I cannot be more specific for you, but if you have further questions or concerns please feel free to reach back out to me and we can discuss other strategies.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
