Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m normally irregular where I ll miss a few periods at a time, my estrogen build up has been estrange for years. I ve been on birth control to regulate my estrogen levels when I was younger, but recently my period has been on going for almost 7 weeks and I m not sure if this raises a red flag because I ve just been one of those abnormal types. I have no cramp pain or vaginal pain of any type, the lining that is fresh is clearly being shed as to how I know it s a light shade of red then when you first begin your period. I don t know if it s just the build up of the old tissue or what not. Should I worry and see a doctor soon or just let it run it s course for now and see if it stops?
I would recommend you to see your doctor as it is not normal to bleed for 7 weeks, even though it is mild bleeding. The doctor will need to do a vaginal examination, a transvaginal ultrasound, a pap smear and if he finds evidence of STI may take swabs for sexually transmitted infections as wellAccording to the results of these tests, the doctor will have to determine further treatment and follow-up.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
