What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding While On Trigestrel?
Hi there I have been using Triphasil for the past 21 years and about a month ago I was given Trigestrel as Triphasil was not in stock. I got my period a week earlier and it has not stopped with today being the 8th day. Is this normal as I feel very uncomfortable and thus causing my Low Blood Pressure to act up.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI , Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Trigestrel & triphasil are two different brand names of same medicine ..so there is hardly any cause for your bleeding being due to change of medicine... except for the possibility of a time lag between the two courses of pills. If there was few days break before you could start Trigestrel... there is a chance of Ovulation/ hormonal imbalance & such bleeding. Take rest & watch for stopping the bleeding. consult your doctor for- - Rescheduling the days of contraceptive pills. OR - For finding other causes of such erratic bleeding ( There might be other causes for the episode... hormonal imbalance due to thyroid or ovarian problems./ cervical polyp or pelvic infection / fibroid of uterus ) Thanks.
