General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
Prolonged period is not normal. You have to consult the gynecologist to rule out the following possibility.
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance.
Endometrial dysplasia or cancer
Cervical poly, dysplasia and cancer
Vaginal infections and polyp.
Go for following investigations:
Reproductive hormone analysis, USG scan, endometrial biopsy, PAP smear, vaginal swab test and urine testing.
Prolonged period generally can be treated by birth control pill or progesterone pill in the second half of the tablet.
Some time tranexamic acid can be used.
Doctor provided obimet as it is insulin sensitizer and help in glucose homeostasis and regularize the period.
Other causes require specific treatment depend on stage and severity.
Take small frequent meal rather than large meal, avoid excessive sweets and yogurts, take fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables like salad.
Do regular exercise like walking and yoga in the morning for 45-60 minutes. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope this may help you
