What Causes Prolonged Upper Respiratory Symptoms?

I have had upper respiratory symptoms for 6 weeks. It started as a head cold, sore throat, ears hurt and congestion. My mouth had a few days when it was raw I could hardly swallow. That passed and I had yellow mucus for about 1 week when I couphed now I cough uncontrollably, very fatique. I have been on 1 round of Z-pack and a decongestant, cough syrup and allergy pill. My 83 year old mother has been sick with the same symptoms, is this a virus? What else can I do for the cough and fatique?

I think you may be suffering from some resistent bacterial starin of staphylococcus. Empirically u now start Augmentin twice daily and Mucinac 600 twice daily and get sputum culture and sensitivity test done, Then visit doctor or consult me with that report.
