General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Prolonged bleeding can be relieved by giving oral contraceptive like Norethesterone. It controls hormonal imbalance & relieves bleeding. It is a progesterone derivative a safe to be used.
Yes, after stopping 21 days course you would get periods within a week and then your doctor would decide about further management. Being oral contraceptive, it would prevent pregnancy.
Still continue with the advised courses of medicines to regularize your periods/treat basic cause of the problem. After you can you can plan for pregnancy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
