What Causes Protein In Urine?

Hi, I am a 35 years old diabetic woman, i have diabetes since 2 years. I was in the Diabetic Clinic 2 weeks ago, and they found protein in my urine. They said this is unusual after 2 years, but i am worrying since that time. Please give any advice, what can I do with this problem. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Protein in the urine with a condition of diabetes indicate underlying renal glomerular dysfunction clearing the microalbumin type particles in the urine which should not be there.

In my clinic, I do recommend a test of serum creatinine and if needed doppler ultrasound of the kidney, CT IVP if creatinine is normal and kidney biopsy as last resort.

There are best medications available to control possible damage to kidney as lisinopril and others, which has to be discussed with your doctor.

Diabetes control and hydration maintenance are 2 main pillars for the best recovery in this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
